Meet the founders behind CPD on the Sea

“We believe CPD can be rich, reflective, and refreshing — not just another conference format.”

— Heidi Germann & Sharon Connell

Who We Are, Why We Created CPD on the Sea, and Where We’re Headed

CPD on the Sea was founded by senior psychologists Heidi Germann and Sharon Connell, whose extensive clinical backgrounds have shaped their understanding of the challenges faced by today’s health professionals. Throughout their careers, Heidi and Sharon have been deeply committed to supporting the wellbeing of practitioners as well as clients. They have seen firsthand the impact of high workloads, emotional labour, and systemic pressures - and how traditional CPD pathways can add to, rather than ease, this strain.

Motivated by a shared belief that professional development should nourish rather than deplete, they created a new approach to CPD: delivering evidence-informed learning aboard cruise ships. This model enables practitioners to meet annual requirements while enjoying rest, travel, and time with the people who matter. It also supports financial accessibility through legitimate tax benefits associated with CPD-related travel.

Heidi and Sharon’s vision is to make CPD a source of renewal rather than exhaustion by pairing high-quality learning with the chance to genuinely unwind. Each program is designed to ensure participants return home with new skills, renewed energy, and a stronger sense of clarity - demonstrating that CPD can be both professionally enriching and personally restorative.
